Job Summary
As a Database Engineer at Candescent, you will design, build, and maintain robust database infrastructure to support our digital banking solutions. You will collaborate with engineering teams to optimize database architecture, ensure high availability, and drive continuous improvement in performance and reliability. This role requires deep expertise in Oracle or Postgres administration, a strong foundation in database design, and a passion for learning open-source technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with software engineers on database design and optimization.
- Build, configure, and maintain database infrastructure (Oracle, SQL Server, and open-source databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Deploy database schema changes across development, staging, and production environments.
- Administer and support non-production database systems to ensure reliability and performance.
- Assist production teams in troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues.
- Research and analyze performance problems, identify root causes, and recommend tuning strategies.
- Define, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data integrity and security.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator (DBA).
- In-depth knowledge of Oracle or Postgres database administration functions.
- Strong database design experience and familiarity with schema optimization.
- Interest in learning and working with open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Couchbase).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-based database services.
Preferred:
- Experience with automation tools and scripting for database operations.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
