Job Summary
The Cloudflare Engineer at Candescent is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Cloudflare services to protect and optimize the organization’s digital assets. This role will work closely with security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure robust protection against DDoS attacks, secure web application delivery, and effective traffic management. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Cloudflare’s suite of products, a strong understanding of cloud security principles, and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize web performance and security configurations.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Cloudflare Platform Management
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Cloudflare services including WAF, CDN, DNS, Zero Trust, Access, and DDoS protection.
- Monitor and tune Cloudflare security policies to protect against evolving threats.
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates, DNS records, and custom rules for web applications.
Security Operations & Incident Response
- Respond to and investigate security incidents involving Cloudflare-protected assets.
- Analyze logs and alerts to identify and remediate vulnerabilities or misconfigurations.
- Collaborate with SOC and engineering teams to ensure rapid incident resolution.
Performance Optimization
- Optimize caching, load balancing, and traffic routing for high availability and low latency.
- Work with application teams to troubleshoot performance issues and implement best practices.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with DevOps, Infrastructure, and Application teams to integrate Cloudflare into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Provide training and documentation for internal teams on Cloudflare usage and security features.
- Support compliance initiatives by ensuring Cloudflare configurations align with regulatory requirements.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain dashboards and reports on Cloudflare service health, security posture, and performance metrics.
- Stay current with Cloudflare product updates and industry trends to recommend improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in network security, cloud security, or infrastructure engineering.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience managing Cloudflare services in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of web protocols (HTTP/S, DNS, TCP/IP) and security concepts (WAF, DDoS, Zero Trust).
- Experience with automation and scripting (Python, PowerShell, Terraform) for Cloudflare API integrations.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid environments.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Preferred Distinctions
- Cloudflare Certified Professional or equivalent certification.
- Experience with regulatory frameworks (PCI-DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001).
- Knowledge of secure application delivery and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with other edge security platforms (Akamai, Fastly, etc.).
