About the Position
Elpha Secure (Elpha) provides novel cyber and technology solutions to cyber and tech errors and omissions policyholders to reduce their risk and losses before and after a cyber incident. Elpha has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, or Assistant Vice President role to join our East Coast team and help lead the New York region. The individual will be responsible for managing a renewal book as well as producing and underwriting new business throughout the greater New York region.
Responsibilities
- Achieve financial targets for your region.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of coverage, terms and conditions. Ability to offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for Elpha while meeting the needs of the customer.
- Risk Assessment. Ability to identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls. Ability to select risk based on exposure and risk analysis. Ability to analyze claims and quantify losses.
- Execute a business plan to expand the existing portfolio, aligning within the overall business strategy.
- Assist in achieving profitable premium and rate goals to successfully deliver results consistent with financial plan.
- Collaborate across business units and functions to leverage existing resources to underwrite, manage and service a cyber and technology renewal book and produce new business in accordance with the Cyber underwriting unit goals.
- Build and enhance relationships with assigned brokers and clients to identify and establish new distribution relationships.
- Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities, and target markets to more effectively enable clients to uncover hidden cyber risks.
- Promote the company's expertise by participating in industry conferences and events while regularly conducting and taking leadership roles in client and broker meetings to educate on evolving cyber risk.
- Actuarial fundamentals. Ability to understand loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking. Ability to quantify risk based on experience history and forecasting methods.
- Marketing and communications. Ability to sell and negotiate to achieve bottom line profitability for Elpha. Ability to make presentations and communicate articulately. Ability to base communications on strategic thinking. Ability to manage producer strategy.
Qualifications
- Strong preference for candidates based in New York, though other locations may be considered
- Preferably at least 3 years underwriting experience for the Underwriter position and at least 5 years for Senior Underwriter and AVP position
- Experience with cyber and tech E&O insurance is required
- Wholesale broker relationships in New York is highly preferred
- Cybersecurity knowledge preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- The ability to travel a minimum of 25% of the time is anticipated
Benefits and Compensation
The expected pay range for the role is $90,000 to $170,000 subject to selected candidate’s title and experience. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible for an annual bonus and equity. In addition, Elpha provides unlimited PTO and health benefits. The disclosed pay range estimate may be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
